It's a big trophy, quite the Ranji size and Rahane extends his unbeaten captaincy stretch to a whole two Tests. The Indian team comes up too, all smiles thanks to three additional days of paid leave. Rahane calls out to Stanikzai and now Afghanistan too pose for a group photo that's going down in the annals of their cricketing history. Every coaching clinic now in the country is going to have this embedded on their brouchure. Right, there also go our plans of heading out to the Chinnaswamy over the weekened. But we hope you've enjoyed all that we've scribbled over the last two days. This is Vineet Anantharaman signing off on behalf of Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Akshay Maanay, Raju Peethala, Rishi Roy and our scorer Sreenivas. Ta ta!!Ajinkya Rahane | India skipper: This feels really special. It is always an honour to lead your country and we wanted to be ruthless. Guys like Shikhar and Vijay got those hundreds, Rahul chipped in and Pandya was magnificent at the end. It was important for all of us to stick to our basics, create some good habits, but credit to Afghanistan, they were fantastic. From here on it is only upwards and onwards for them. Their seamers bowled really well, especially in the third session yesterday and I am sure they will go a long way against all opponents.Shikhar Dhawan | Man of the Match: I am really happy with the way I have been batting. It is good that we've finished the match early and will have a few days off to get fresh before we go to Ireland. It was a damp pitch, the ball of course was swinging and seaming a bit but I was clear in my mind that I wanted to play positive cricket. Things went my way and I was enjoying it as by the grace of God I became the first Indian to get a century inside a session. First of all I would like to congratulate Afghanistan for reaching this level. It's only their first Test and they'll keep getting better as they play more. I would also like to wish them Eid Mubarak; it is a big day for them; it is always a learning process and once they start winning they'll do really well. Big names are already coming out of their country and doing really well in world cricket. I would also like to thank the audience for coming here and enjoying themselves.Asghar Stanikzai | Afghanistan skipper: First thanks to BCCI and the Afghanistan Cricket Board to have given us this opportunity. We hadn't played a Test match before this and we've learnt a lot. In the future when we play a match, we know now how to play against a full member nation like India. Yes, we were surprised by how quickly things ended because we were a good team. But Test cricket is a completely different ball game, we have a lot of time and we'll work on our weaknesses. A huge thanks to the crowd as well, it felt like we were in Kabul.
Two days before the start of the inaugural Test match, Kevin Pietersen summed up what it meant to play a Test match at the Pataudi lecture. He called it the 'greatest all-round challenge in modern sport'.
A few hours before Pietersen's speech, Afghanistan lined up together after a practice session in full whites, and a bright blue blazer for the official team photographs. They had finished practice only a while ago but their spirits were still high. The players sat first, followed by members of the support staff joining them one by one and all of it finally ended with a raucous laughter and cheering. It was scheduled a day earlier but had to be cancelled because of poor lighting. Even that had resulted in selfies and more laughter. In practice sessions, Mohammad Shahzad pauses his batting stint in the nets to greet journalists. When the bowler, Amir Hamza, comes to explain the imaginary field he has, Shahzad waves him away; Rashid Khan has some fun bowling to clueless tailenders as he fires in his legspinners and follows it up with a word or two.
Being in Bengaluru, they have also called in bat-makers to their practice sessions to test out new equipment. Their first team huddle lasts a good twelve minutes before the players split up in groups but it's a fairly relaxed session. Their practice sessions grow in intensity over the next two days but the final one, as too their first one, is affected by rain. Their line-up too will not see too many of their white-ball specialists crossing over to the longer format. The others have prepared in relative obscurity as the focus is diverted to their known entities, namely their spinners who have done well in the IPL.
India decided that their final practice session before the Test starts is an optional one. It's a process that they have put in place from their previous Test series in South Africa. Their preparations are in contrast to Afghanistan's. They begin their training with intensity a couple of days ahead and leave the day before for rest and recuperation. They do not have their regular captain in Virat Kohli, but it hasn't disturbed them too much. The practice sessions still run like a well-oiled machine. The players don't have to be told what to do except for certain routine instructions. Shikhar Dhawan has a fitness training but doesn't bat, Karun Nair joins Cheteshwar Pujara for slip catching practice on the final day, the bowlers have decided to give the optional training a miss, so has Murali Vijay.
The stand-in skipper, Ajinkya Rahane, like Dinesh Karthik before him plays oblivious to Asghar Stanikzai's comments comparing the spinners of the two teams. They believe that their own experience will matter more in the upcoming days. They have grown used to the excitement of a Test match, and have processes to handle it. From Thursday, Afghanistan's exuberance will be up against India's experience. But Afghanistan will walk out with a sense of achievement to have even come this far.
What to expect: Rain might rob a few parts of the game while the pitch isn't expected to play at any extreme.
Team News
India
For a while now, India have wrestled with the best options to pick from those available with primary focus on the two trios - the openers and spinners. There is a chance that in the absence of Virat Kohli, all three openers feature but Murali Vijay's lack of game-time in the recent past could also pave the way for Karun Nair to find a spot in the middle order. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja lead the race for the spinners' slots but Kuldeep Yadav has an outside chance of getting in, if wrist spin takes precedence.
Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Murali Vijay/Karun Nair, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja/Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma
Afghanistan
With spin bowling being a clear strength, Afghanistan will wrestle with the right options to pick from. They have all possible options - left-arm wrist spinner in Zahir Khan, mystery spinners in Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan's leg spin, conventional finger spinners and all-round options in Mohammad Nabi and Amir Hamza.
Probable XI: Javed Ahmadi/ Ihsanullah, Mohammad Shahzad, Rahmat Shah, Asghar Stanikzai, Nasir Jamal, Mohammad Nabi, Afsar Sazai (wk), Rashid Khan, Yamin Ahmadzai, Sayad Shirzad/Wafadar, Zahir Khan/Mujeeb ur Rahman/Amir Hamza

India is having a marvellous year with back-to–back series wins and each and every player showing excellent form. One or the other player always comes through for the team and stupendous performances from Indian bowlers have the men in blue as the top team in ICC rankings for tests as well as ODIs. They are all set to become the world T20 champions as well.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, isn’t looking so good. They just had a devastating tour in UAE against Pakistan even after registering a test series win against them. The team did defeat Pakistan in both the test matches but lost all ODIs and T20Is after that. They are looking forward for a change of fortunes with their tour of India and win back the respect. The aim of the team is going to be to sweep the series, a repeat of what India did to them on their home ground.

Indian Cricket Team:
Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravinchandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Lokesh Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma
Sri Lankan Cricket Team:
Although the squad has not been announced yet, it is predicted that Sri Lanka would take the same squad that went to the UAE tour.
Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal(c), Lahiru Thirimanne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Roshen Silva, Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Rangana Herath, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Lakshan Sandakan, Dilruwan Perera,Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Gamage
Players to Watch and Match Prediction:
Jadeja and Ashwin would be playing in this test match and if the pitch turns predicatably, they are going to have a field day with Sri Lankan batsmen. Rohit Sharma smashed 264 against Sri Lanka on this very ground in November, 2014 and if he plays, this is going to be a fun match to watch. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are the best test players India has.
Sri Lankans have had trouble keeping a partnership running, which is really important when it comes to tests. Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella led Sri Lanka to victory by playing wonderfully in the test against Pakistan; they will be gearing up to do the same in India. Karunaratne is expected to continue with his Pakistan form and Rangana Herath, Sri Lanka’s star spinner is expected to be a thorn for the Indian side.
The Sri Lankan side may be low on confidence, but the Pakistan win would have boosted their confidence, and let’s not forget, when in form they are a formidable team to face on the ground. Therefore, if Sri Lanka puts up a fight, the men in blue may not have it as easy as they did last time around.
